Shrink- Wrap Services Provided by Marine Services Packaging

What is shrink-wrap?
Shrink-wrap is a light, clean, plastic material that has a wide range of uses without the damage associated with heavier covers. It can be used for safe storage of vehicles, boats, trailers, construction materials, inventory items, machinery, and equipment of any size for up to a year outside, in warm or cold weather. It can also be used to protect items from damage during transport by land or sea, allowing the item to arrive at its destination in the same condition in which it was shipped.

Shrink-wrap is offered in several sizes and colors for a variety of uses. White shrink-wrap is most commonly used because it reflects the sun and allows interiors to remain cooler.

Shrink-wrap can be used to build temporary shelters for outdoor crews as well as for temporary storage of construction machinery and equipment and materials, such as lumber, concrete blocks and bricks. It can also be used for outdoor warehousing purposes or be used for temporary walls and windows.

In addition, shrink-wrap can be used to protect hot tubs and spas, motorcycles, aircraft and parts, and greenhouses, among other items, of any size or shape.
Shrink-wrap may also be used for environmental containment of chemicals and for asbestos and lead paint abatement.

Shrink-wrap, which is a petroleum-based product, cannot be re-used but can be recycled and melted down for use for other products.

Why use shrink-wrap?
Shrink-wrap is cost effective when compared to repairing damage caused by rain and other precipitation or wind.

Shrink-wrapping is a great protective coating for shipping. Shrink-wrapping saves time and money as opposed to other types of packaging. It reduces the need for manual packing or crating prior to shipment and cleaning and maintenance upon arrival of the product at its destination.

Shrink-wrap is strong and durable, and there is no seam taping required because the shrink-wrap bonds to itself quickly. The shrink-wrapping process entails building a frame around an item, then unrolling sheets of shrink-wrap plastic, which is less than a centimeter thick, and applying heat from blowtorches to fuse the seams and to shape the material to the item’s dimensions. Because shrink-wrap is heat sealed, it offers complete protection against environmental conditions. The covers can be vented to minimize moisture and condensation buildup. Bags for mildew and odor absorbing bags can also be placed under the cover to remove moisture.

A zipper can be installed for boats, trailers, and vehicles, to allow the owner access to them while they are being stored.

Shrink-wrap covers are also available for standard-size pallets. Customized sizes are also available.
